How to Correctly Use Meditation Books
More and more people are using meditation as a means to relax and focus their thoughts. Because of this, there seems to be more and more meditation books available now than there ever has been. While the choices can be overwhelming, there is a good way and a bad way to use these meditation books. The following will give you a brief idea of how to use meditation books correctly.
1. Take the time to read through the book before you purchase it. Don't just pick a random one off the shelf and get it. Read through it and make sure that it looks like something you will be able to use. Some people prefer having a lot of diagrams. Other people like straight prose. You might prefer something that you can stick in a laptop bag or purse and carry along with you. Choose your purchase wisely.
2. Decide whether you want a "how to" book or a different kind of book. If you are a beginner then you might be looking for tips on meditation. On the other hand, if you're an old pro, or simply requiring more information on the subject and history of the practice, then you might be looking for something different. Knowing what you are looking for is helpful.
3. Consider purchasing something designed for your religion-or not designed for any religion at all. Meditation can be used by practically every religion in the world. There are books out there, though, that are definitely geared towards one type of religion in particular. Make sure that if you are a devout Pentecostal, you aren't purchasing a meditation book geared towards Wiccans. It just won't be that helpful for you and might make you uncomfortable.
4. Don't try to read it all at one sitting. Instead, read a couple of pages a day. Think of it as going on a journey.
5. If it's a "how-to" book then practice as you go. Don't read the entire book and then try to put everything into practice at once. Practice on your breathing one day, your concentration another day, etc. This will make it less overwhelming.
Above all, remember that you're not married to your book. Therefore, if it's not what you're looking for and you're not getting the use out of it that you thought you would-search for another! It won't get its feelings hurt at all.
